Drugs and alcohol are addictive substances that change the body and the brain. Your brain begins to rely on these foreign substances to function and that can leave you depending on these substances. This dependence makes quitting difficult and requires professional help for a successful drug detox. If you are looking for a quality California drug detox center, Gratitude Lodge offers a premier detoxing facility and drug addiction rehab programs at our luxurious locations in Long Beach and Newport Beach.

Detox is a process intended to remove toxins and addictive substances from the body. Alcohol detox or drug detox is the first step in the recovery process. Detox often has side effects as your body reacts to leaching the toxins from your system. Our credentialed and experienced team is always there to help you deal with withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Medication may be used to help the process go smoother. Once you get through drug detox, you’re ready to start the rest of your recovery journey.

Many patients ask, “How long does the drug detox procedure take?” There is no clear answer on how long the detox process takes because it is based on several factors:

  • What type of drug or alcohol was abused
  • How long you have been using
  • How your body responds to the treatment
  • If multiple drugs were being used
  • The frequency of use
  • Your age, gender, and family history
  • Your medical history and condition

The process could take days, weeks, or even months. The detox process is different for everyone based on the addiction. Some drugs require a longer span of time to overcome withdrawals while others are easier to overcome.

At Gratitude Lodge, we have inpatient detox programs in a comfortable, safe, and relaxing setting. We begin the process with evaluation. We run tests, gather family and medical history, and otherwise seek to discover the length and severity of your addiction. We then work to stabilize you through our medical team and treatment drugs to help with withdrawal symptoms. Depending on the severity of the addiction, we can determine which treatment option is best for you. We offer detox programs for a number of drug and alcohol addictions. Here are a few of the programs available at our detoxing facility.

Both our drug addiction rehab centers in Newport Beach and Long Beach offer drug detox and alcohol detox that is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and condition. Here’s an overview of each detox program.

Alcohol detox generally takes about a week for withdrawal symptoms to subside. The first couple of days, you can experience symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, sweating, nausea, body tremors, and even hallucinations in severe cases. Around day three and four, emotional distress can occur, as well as confusion and continuing hallucinations. Physical symptoms begin to subside by day five but mental symptoms can remain, such as anxiety and panic attacks.

Some lingering symptoms of Heroin detox can last anywhere from 18 months to 2 years. Symptoms include flu-like symptoms, vomiting, sweating, and diarrhea. These symptoms appear in the first couple days after stopping use. From there you begin to feel shakiness, chills, cramps, and muscle aches over the next few days. Mental symptoms include anxiety and panic attacks. By the last few days, the flu-like symptoms begin to subside but some common long-lasting symptoms can include anxiety, depression, insomnia, and fatigue.

Meth detox can cause withdrawal symptoms that depend on many factors, and this can impact how long the symptoms last. Most of the time symptoms can last about 5 weeks. Within the first few days of stopping use, you experience sugar cravings that can last for a long time. Anxiety and depression also surface at this time. Then, the next few days you begin to feel tired and lethargic, which often continues for several weeks.

Benzodiazepine detox causes withdrawal symptoms that can last days or weeks, depending on the severity of your addiction. A slow-taper process may be used to avoid severe symptoms. A doctor will reduce the prescription dosage of detox medications to help you have an easier transition. The first couple of days after stopping use, you experience headaches, insomnia, irritability, muscle pain, stiffness, heart palpitations, and sweating. Then, you may experience rebound anxiety, nausea, and tremors; severe cases may experience seizures as time goes on. For the next several weeks, anxiety continues, as well as on-edge and agitated feelings.

Opioid detox withdrawal symptoms can last a few days or even years, depending on the severity of the addiction. Symptoms in the first few days include flu-like symptoms, vomiting, and nausea. Further along you can experience insomnia, high blood pressure, shakiness, muscle spasms, and cravings. After several days, most of the physical symptoms subside but the mental symptoms can last up to 2 years. They include anxiety, irritability, mood swings, and poor concentration.

After drug or alcohol detox occurs, it is important to remain in the recovery process due to the mental symptoms that most of these drugs bring. Drug addiction rehab centers like Gratitude Lodge generally have continuing programs where you can recover properly with a structured schedule and therapy sessions that help you prepare for a sober future.
