What Is Farmapram? Uses, Side Effects, & Risks of Mexican Xanax

Farmapram, also known as Mexican Xanax, is a brand of alprazolam, a benzo prescribed to treat panic disorders and anxiety. While popular for its affordability compared to U.S. Xanax, there are risks associated, including lack of regulation, potential for abuse, artificial versions, and legal issues.

If you’re struggling with anxiety or panic disorders, it’s important that you seek the advice of a licensed mental health professional in order to treat a mental health disorder. Farmapram is not currently recommended for use in the United States.

This guide tells you all you need to know about Farmapram and shows you how to get effective benzo addiction treatment [1].

What Is Farmapram?

Farmapram is an illicit drug similar to Xanax (alprazolam) that’s produced in Mexico and sold worldwide. In the United States, alprazolam is a Schedule IV controlled substance for its risk of abuse and addiction [2].

Safer, legal Benzos like Xanax are approved by the FDA to treat panic disorders and anxiety disorders. This class of medication may also be used to treat depression, insomnia, and social phobia.

What Does Farmapram Look Like?

Farmapram is a type of non-FDA approved medication often used illegally for anxiety. It comes in small round or oval tablets. The tablets are usually white and have a line in the middle, making it easy to split them if needed. Some tablets may have Farmapram printed on them, along with the dosage amount, such as 0.5mg or 1mg.

U.S. doctors will not prescribe Farmapram, but will instead reccommend other Benzos that are regulated like Xanax or Clonazepam.

Is Farmapram Alprazolam?

Farmapram is one of many brand names for the drug alprazolam that is manufactured in Mexico. Alprazolam is a medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders and is the main ingredient in most anxiety medications.

Farmapram works by affecting chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with anxiety. Alprazolam, the active ingredient in Farmapram, works by boosting the effects of a chemical in the body called GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) [3]. GABA is a neurotransmitter that helps to calm the brain and nerves. By increasing the effect of GABA, alprazolam helps to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and panic, providing a calming effect on the brain and body.

Is Farmapram Xanax?

Farmapram and Xanax are both brand names for the same drug, alprazolam. They both work the same way to help reduce anxiety and panic attacks. The main difference is the name and the company that makes them, however, Farmapram is considered risky to use due to its lack of FDA regulation.

Uses of Farmapram

Farmapram is used in Mexico to treat conditions such as:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Panic disorders
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Social phobia

The medication only has FDA approval for the treatment of panic and anxiety. Other uses are considered off-label.

Dosages of Farmapram: 2 mg & More

Farmapram is a medication used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. It comes in various dosages to meet different needs. It’s essential to take the right amount as prescribed by your doctor.

Common dosages include:

  • 0.25mg: This is a very low dose often used for people starting the medication or those who need a small amount to control their symptoms.
  • 0.5mg: This is another common starting dose, which can be increased if needed.
  • 1mg: This is a moderate dose used for more severe symptoms.
  • 2mg: Farmapram 2mg is a high dose usually given for more intense anxiety or panic disorders. It’s vital to follow your doctor’s instructions exactly with this dose.

Differences Between Traditional Xanax & Farmapram

The medications differ in terms of their brand names, manufacturing, and regulation.

Brand names

Xanax is a well-known brand of the drug alprazolam and is primarily used in the United States. It is recognized for its effectiveness in treating anxiety and panic disorders. The name Xanax has become synonymous with alprazolam in many places due to its popularity and widespread use.

Farmapram, on the other hand, is a brand of alprazolam that is commonly found in Mexico. It contains the same active ingredient as Xanax, which means it works in the same way to treat anxiety and panic disorders. Although it is less known internationally, Farmapram is widely used in Mexico and is trusted by many for its effectiveness.

Manufacturing and regulation

Xanax is manufactured by pharmaceutical companies in the United States. It is subject to strict regulations and quality controls set by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This means that the production process is closely monitored to ensure that the medication meets high standards of safety and effectiveness. The FDA’s rigorous oversight helps to ensure that each batch of Xanax is consistent and reliable.

Farmapram is produced by pharmaceutical companies in Mexico and is regulated by Mexican health authorities. While the regulations in Mexico may differ from those in the United States, Mexican health authorities also enforce strict guidelines to ensure the safety and quality of medications. The manufacturing process for Farmapram is designed to meet these standards, providing users with a safe and effective product.

Is Farmapram Mexican Xanax?

Farmapram Mexico is often called Mexican Xanax because it is the same type of medication (alprazolam) but made in Mexico. Mexican Xanax bars work the same way and treat the same conditions as Xanax.

Difference in Formulations

The tablets come in either immediate-release or extended-release form. The appearance also differs.

Immediate-release vs. extended-release

  • Immediate-release: Both Xanax and Farmapram come in immediate-release forms, which start working quickly to relieve anxiety.
  • Extended-release: Xanax also comes in an extended-release form, which slowly releases the medication over time. Farmapram may not be available in this form.

Tablet appearance

  • Xanax: Usually comes in small, rectangular bars or round tablets, often white or blue.
  • Farmapram: Typically comes in round tablets, usually white, and may have the dosage imprinted on the tablet.

Price Points of Farmapram vs. Xanax

Farmapram is often cheaper than Xanax because it is made in Mexico, where production costs are lower. This means that Farmapram can be sold at lower prices. However, the price of Farmapram can vary widely depending on where you buy it and whether you have insurance to help cover the cost.

Xanax is usually more expensive, especially in the United States. Without insurance, the cost of Xanax can be quite high. However, if you have insurance, it can help lower the price significantly. The difference in price is also due to the way each country regulates and distributes the medication. In the U.S., strict regulations and insurance coverage can make Xanax more expensive than Farmapram.

Understanding these price differences can help you make better decisions about your medication. Always talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment.

Risks of Using Farmapram

Farmapram can be dangerous because it can be easily misused. Some people might take too much or use it without a doctor’s prescription.

Using Farmapram for a long time can cause your body to get used to it. This means you might need more of the drug to feel the same effects, which can lead to dependence [4].

Negative Side Effects

Common side effects include:

  • Drowsiness: You might feel very sleepy, which can make it hard to stay alert during the day.
  • Dizziness: You could feel lightheaded or unsteady, making it hard to walk or stand.
  • Dry mouth: Your mouth may feel dry and uncomfortable.
  • Headache: You might get frequent headaches.
  • Blurred vision: Your eyesight could become blurry, making it hard to see clearly.
  • Stomach problems: You might feel nauseous or have an upset stomach.
  • Memory problems: It can be hard to remember things or concentrate.
  • Fatigue: You might feel extremely tired, even if you’ve had enough sleep.

Serious side effects include:

  • Breathing problems: Farmapram can slow down your breathing, especially if taken with other sedatives. This can be very dangerous.
  • Confusion: You might feel very confused or disoriented, making it hard to think clearly.
  • Mood changes: You could experience mood swings, feel more anxious, or become depressed.
  • Severe allergic reactions: Symptoms can include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing.
  • Seizures: There is a risk of seizures, especially if you stop taking the medication suddenly.
  • Fainting: You might faint or feel like you are going to faint.
  • Coordination problems: You could have trouble with your coordination, making it hard to move normally.

Long-term side effects include:

  • Dependence and addiction: Over time, your body might need more of the drug to feel the same effects, leading to dependence or addiction.
  • Tolerance: You may need higher doses to achieve the same effect, which can increase the risk of overdose.
  • Withdrawal symptoms: If you stop taking Farmapram suddenly, you might experience withdrawal symptoms [5], like increased anxiety, insomnia, and irritability.
  • Mental health issues: Long-term use can worsen mental health problems like depression and anxiety.
  • Cognitive impairment: Extended use can lead to lasting problems with memory and thinking skills.

If you experience any side effects, especially serious ones, it’s important to contact your doctor immediately. They can help you adjust your dosage or switch to a different medication if necessary. Never stop taking Farmapram without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms and other health problems.

Addiction Risk Factors

Farmapram, like other medications containing alprazolam, can be highly effective in treating anxiety and panic disorders. However, there is a risk of developing an addiction to this medication. Understanding the risk factors can help you and your doctor make safer choices and monitor for signs of dependence.

  • Family history of addiction: If addiction runs in your family, you may have a higher risk of becoming addicted to Farmapram. Genetics plays a significant role in addiction vulnerability. Growing up in a household where substance abuse is common can also increase your risk.
  •  Mental health issues: If you already suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental health disorders, you might be more likely to misuse Farmapram to manage these symptoms. Individuals with both mental health issues and substance use disorders (dual diagnosis) are at higher risk for addiction [6].
  •  Previous substance abuse: If you have abused other drugs or alcohol in the past, you are more likely to misuse Farmapram. People who have recovered from one addiction may be more vulnerable to becoming addicted to another substance.
  •  High-stress levels: Living with constant stress from work, school, or personal issues can increase your likelihood of turning to medication for relief. Experiencing trauma or major life changes can also heighten the risk of addiction.
  •  Young age: People who start using medications like Farmapram at a young age are more likely to develop an addiction. The brains of younger individuals are still developing, making them more susceptible to the effects of addictive substances.
  •  Social and environmental factors: Being in an environment where drug use is common can increase your risk. Not having a strong support system of family and friends can lead to a higher risk of misuse and addiction.
  • Building Tolerance: Taking Farmapram for a long period can lead to tolerance, where you need more of the drug to feel the same effects, increasing the risk of addiction. Using higher doses than prescribed or taking the medication more frequently can lead to dependence.

Farmapram Overdose

Taking too much Farmapram can lead to an overdose, which is very dangerous. Symptoms of an overdose include:

  • You might feel extremely sleepy or unable to wake up.
  • Your breathing might become very slow or stop.
  • You might have trouble walking or coordinating movements.
  • You could lose consciousness or go into a coma.

If you think someone has overdosed on Farmapram, get medical help right away. Call emergency services immediately. Quick treatment can save a life.
